Wind, roof and water intrusion after a storm
Hurricane damage is rarely just a few missing tiles. Wind lifts the roof covering, rain gets into the attic and walls, and the interior damage keeps growing after the storm passes. A quick look from the street misses most of it.
We inspect the roof, the openings and the interior, separate wind damage from any flood damage and prepare one complete claim. Our hurricane damage claims page covers the basics for all of Florida.
After a storm, protect the property first: tarp the roof, board broken windows and keep receipts. Those reasonable emergency repairs are usually part of the claim.
First steps after a hurricane
- Wait until it is safe, then photograph the outside and inside of the property.
- Make temporary repairs to stop more water from getting in, and keep the receipts.
- Report the claim to your insurer and write down the claim number.
- Call 888-888-8591 for a free inspection before you accept a quick offer.

Storm damage we document
What we look for on a Lee County home or business after a named storm.
Roof covering and decking
Lifted, cracked or missing tile, shingle or metal panels, and damage to the underlayment and decking below.
Windows, doors and openings
Broken glass, failed seals, damaged garage doors and the water that came in through them.
Interior water intrusion
Wet ceilings, insulation, drywall and floors from rain that entered during the storm.
Exterior structures
Screen enclosures, soffits, fascia, fences, carports and other structures on the property.
Business properties
Storefronts, signs, rooftop equipment and the business income lost while you are closed.
Mold after the storm
Moisture left behind in walls and ceilings that turns into mold if it is not dried in time.
Hurricane deductibles and deadlines
Storm claims come with their own rules. These are the ones that matter most.
The hurricane deductible
Florida policies usually have a separate hurricane deductible, often a percentage of the dwelling limit. It is applied once per hurricane season, so later storms that year may use a different deductible.
Notice deadlines
Florida law sets a deadline for reporting a new property claim, and a separate one for supplemental claims (section 627.70132). Report the loss as soon as you can.
Wind versus flood
Insurers may say water damage came from flood, which homeowners policies exclude. Clear evidence of wind-driven damage matters.
Patch instead of replace
Offers that pay for a few tiles when the roof can no longer be repaired to match. We document why.
How we handle a new storm claim
Fast inspection, full documentation and steady negotiation.
Roof-to-floor inspection
We document the roof, attic, openings and every affected room, with photos and measurements.
Separate the causes
Wind, rain and any flood damage recorded separately, so each policy is asked to pay its share.
Complete estimate
An itemized estimate for the building, other structures and contents, plus additional living expense where it applies.
Negotiation
We meet the insurer's adjuster, answer requests and push back when items are missing.

Hurricane damage FAQ
Should I make repairs before the adjuster comes?
Make temporary repairs that stop more damage, like tarps and boarding, and keep receipts. Hold off on permanent repairs until the damage is documented.
How does the hurricane deductible work?
It is usually a percentage of your dwelling coverage and applies to hurricane losses instead of your regular deductible. Your declarations page shows the amount.
My roof is old. Will the insurer still pay?
Age alone does not decide it. What matters is whether the storm damaged the roof and what your policy says about roof coverage. We document storm damage versus wear.
Can you help my business after a hurricane?
Yes. We handle commercial property and business interruption claims. See our commercial claims page.
What does a public adjuster cost after a hurricane?
When the governor has declared a state of emergency for the storm, the most a public adjuster may charge on that claim in the first year is 10%. The inspection is free. See public adjuster fees.
